The African Magazine supports CNN’s lawsuit against the White House

The African Magazine stands firmly behind CNN and its star reporter Jim Acosta whose pass was arbitrarily suspended last week by the White House. We could not agree more with the White House Correspondents Association that “The President of the United States should not be in the business of arbitrarily picking the men and women who cover him.”

This president is not above the law, so The African fully supports CNN’s lawsuit against this White House.

Trump’s shameful treatment of the media, which he called the enemy of the people, should not stand. The media is an essential part of our everyday life, and we must be free to play our critical role to bring the news to the people.

Jim Acosta’s suspension followed our colleague’s insistence on doing his job by asking a question and setting the facts straight during Donald Trump’s post-election newsconference last Wednesday. During the rare newsconference, Trump lived up to his reputation by behaving like a bully, as he often does with the media, calling our colleague Acosta and  several others names.
