Why is prominent Miami lawyer Alexandria Suarez eyeing a seat in the Florida House of Representatives?

Her youthful look may not show it, but Alexandria Suarez is the mother of four children—ranging in age from 30 to 20 years—who juggled raising her children and a fulfilling professional career as a public school teacher, then a pharmaceutical representative, and later earned a law degree which allowed her to open her own practice in Homestead, Florida. A resident of District 120 in southern Miami-Dade County, the prominent lawyer and over-achiever is now running for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives.

Suarez told the press what prompted her to run for office:

“As a resident of southern Miami-Dade County and the Keys for many years, I share our goal of seeking solutions for affordable housing, relieving transit issues, and protecting the Everglades, water quality and the natural resources that drive our local economy and tourism.”

She added:

“I am focused on common sense solutions that will also address health care concerns and improve our educational system in Miami-Dade and Monroe County.”

She elaborates further on how she plans to address specific community needs if she wins the community’s trust:

  • EDUCATION: “As a former teacher, education is a passion of mine and it’s key that we keep providing teachers, students and their parents the resources necessary to enter the workforce and be productive citizens of our community.”
  • WATER AND NATURAL RESOURCES: “The water and natural resources of the Florida Keys is the backbone of its economy and we must continue to prioritize how we cleanup the Everglades and ensure that we don’t experience the devastating algae blooms that our state has endured during the last several years. The Keys is a national marine sanctuary and we must continue to bring awareness and education of its delicate nature, balancing protection while welcoming tourists and boaters to enjoy the area and driving the economy.”
  • HEALTHCARE: “As someone who worked in the healthcare industry, I understand the high costs for patients, as well as the struggles our District physicians face in their goal to provide quality of care under the pressure of keeping costs down. We must strive to strengthen the doctor-patient relationship and decrease the bureaucracy for doctors and patients. This will result in better care and less drain on the healthcare system in South Florida.”

Suarez’s professional track record speaks loudly to her being prepared and ready on day one to tackle the above issues she cares so much about. Talking about the decade she spent in the educational field, she said:

“I was blessed to participate in successful curriculum initiatives that resulted in increased test scores and more educated students.”

As a pharmaceutical representative who worked throughout the same geographical location as her State House District, and a mother who struggled to pay for health insurance coverage while working to make ends meet, she obviously is no stranger to the issue most Americans mention today as their number one concern: healthcare.

Suarez’s bold move to fulfill her life-long dream by going back to school at the ripe age of 43 to earn her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from St. Thomas in less than 3 years, pass the FL Bar shortly thereafter, and open her solo law practice is proof of her resolve to meet the goals she sets for herself. A selfless citizen, she hopes to use the same dedication to serve the men and women of Florida District 120.

Alexandria Suarez is a member of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of Florida, the Federalist Society, Gun Owners Association of America, the Firearms Policy Coalition, the South Dade Chamber of Commerce, Upper Keys Chamber of Commerce. She serves in many other civic and charitable causes, including as an annual guest speaker on ethical governance in high schools on behalf of the Miami Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust.
